Tierra Ideas: Fashion From the Sky and Even the Landfill
Everybody needs a sweet messenger bag, or a backpack or small little sack to carry stuff around and with the, uh, ka-billions of bags to choose from out there, it’s not an easy decision. However, I’m going to try to help ya out and at least give you one option to seriously consider: a bag by Tierra Ideas.
Why you ask? Well, while I really like their designs, one of the coolest elements of their work is where the materials for said bags come from. Matt Mahler, creator of Tierra Ideas was kind enough to send me an awesome Hybrid Laptop Bag, which, in itself, exemplifies their dedication to making sustainable designs.
Here it is!
Here I am carrying it. I have one leg, FYI.
Here I am pretending to be on the go. Convincing ay? This is what I really look like. Swear.
The Hybrid Laptop Bag is made from recycled aircraft seat covers, bike innertubes, tractor innertubes, and an auto seat belt as the shoulder strap. Totally recycled and from things you’d never think to carry around on your shoulder.
I seriously have been using this bag every since Matt sent it to me. It’s super spacious, which suits any city dweller’s on-the-go lifestyle. I mean I’ve shoved everything from loaves of bread to Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire into it, so let that speak for itself! It protects my laptop like a cocoon of softness and it comes with lots of little pockets to store all my random items that I like to schlep around. I really love the strap, which is sturdy and comfy on my shoulders. Bottom line, I have a huge crush on my new bag! These retail for for $175 and you can buy them here!
Even cooler than this messenger, is the Tierra Ideas’ general philosophy, which encourages other companies to go green by working with them and recycling all their waste items. Tierra Ideas will work jointly on designs, recycling, documenting the reduction in pollutants and other processes so, they’re sort of like a creative eco-design consultant, to boot.
It’s super important to me that we support crafts like this and people who actually give a hoot about minimizing the waste we have all created in this world. So, lend a hand to Matt and his team to allow him to continue his great endeavor and make more bags using materials that would otherwise further pollute our world.
Check out his kickstarter page, Taking Recycle Higher, and donate!
XOXO,
Zanna
