Textile Arts Center Fashion's Night Out

If you don’t live under a rock in New York City, you’ve definitely been seeing stuff for Fashion’s Night Out all over the place. And, I bet you’ve been thinking, “But…but…what if you’re an eco-fashionista and you want to go out like those other fashionistas?” Well, you weren’t the only ones! Bree and I attended (Sustainable) Fashion’s Night Out last night, hosted by EcoSalon, the Textile Arts Center and Of Rags. We mingled, we shopped and we had a green-ed old time. (I know you love my cheesy puns, by the way.)

We had the pleasure of meeting the assistant designer of Feral Childe, a brand we LOVE and have featured on this blog before where I covered my obsession with their pants. We also met the lovely, Amy Dufault, Managing Editor at EcoSalon, who was photographing the event as well as Rhea Alexander, Founder and Designer of DIGS, a seriously fabulous eco and fair trade online shop .

Speaking of DIGS, SFNO was featuring a project called Scarfitecture (amongst other work by DIGS), which I thought was really neat. In short (read the full details here), DIGS and Ecolibri.org (an organization dedicated to improving the lives of Guatemalans in the Lake Atitlan region) invited seven renown architects to create a design that Guatamalan artisans turned into beautiful scarves. They are really amazing! See a  few pics below:

Also, Feral Childe did a t-shirt with EcoSalon for the event, which I bought. It reads “STOP THE FASHION PIRATES,” and sends a little message to big conglomerates like (cough) Forever21 (cough), who seem to rip off the prints of certain designers. The fabric is awesome and it’s totally organic so, win/win.

Yours Truly, holding the sweet t-shirt I picked up.

Anywho – I’m not even beginning to cover all the brands that were there, but here’s a full list on the Sustainable Fashion’s Night Out website. Definitely check out all of them.

Thanks to all that put this event together and for our goodie bag full of lots of eco-friendly items!

Stay tuned for more eco-fashion events to come!
